Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Chattanooga Arboretum & Nature Center!  Volunteers come from different backgrounds, with each contributing a unique perspective to the center.  Volunteers are greatly appreciated in all fields, however, positions are limited in some departments.  The Chattanooga Arboretum & Nature Center strives to accommodate academic community service needs, as well as personal preferences or physical limitations.

Monday Mornings from 9am to 12pm
Join CA&NC volunteers and staff to maintain and enhance the Holsomback Hillside Garden.  The Holsomback garden contains collections of Glendale Azaleas, rhododendrons, and hardy camellias.  The garden shrubs are adorned with blooms from December through the spring and early summer.  Its location near the entrance and exit to the Visitor's Center make this an important part of every visitor's experience.

Winter Pruning - Wednesday Afternoons from 2 to 4:30, January and February
Winter is a great time for pruning most of the trees and shrubs in our landscape.  Learn the art and science of pruning, while at the same time providing a great benefit to the Arboretum. E-mail Dennis Bishop for more information.

Thursday Mornings from 9am to 12pm
Join CA&NC volunteers and staff to maintain and enhance the Robert Philp Memorial Garden.  This woodland garden contains a large collection of native azaleas and other ericaceous plants.  In the coming year, the garden will be enhanced with native wildflowers and ferns, and a new arbor at the entrance.
