Discovery Forest Treehouse

Size
750 square feet

Tree
The treehouse is set among the arms of an overcup oak tree that is over 100 years old and is an indicator species for wetlands.

Protecting the Tree
Great care was taken in footing the supports for the treehouse, which have been secured in a manner that ensures minimal impact to the forest floor and the roots of the overcup oak tree. Thanks to skilled engineers and a conscientious construction crew, the trees root system was entirely avoided.

Unique Features
The treehouse is made up of architectural pieces from all over the world. It features antique windows from a cathedral in Scotland, hand-carved cedar posts from the Pacific Northwest, stained glass works by southeastern artists and other distinctive windows and doors that were salvaged. The back door features a metalwork piece by local artist Bryan Strickland.

Construction
The treehouse was completed in 2000 and was built by Monty Veal Construction Company and designed by Chattanooga architect Rob Fowler and Monty Humphreys of Humphreys & Associates.

What are the Profiles Carved into the Railings?
Along the boardwalk leading up to the treehouse door is a parade of childrens profiles carved out of the railings. The childrens profiles featured along the boardwalk are some of the centers Treehouse Founding Members.
